2018 Nissan Frontier Release Date

Now that the all new Titan has been released, Nissan should finally have enough time to update the Frontier. Their medium sized truck has been around for more than a decade now and it shows. It is not as efficient, powerful or capable as the competition. However, it is quite cheap and that’s enough, but only for now. Nissan has been testing prototypes ever since 2014 when they showcased a diesel version. However, it now seems that an all-new model is in the works. This new truck should be released with the 2018 Nissan Frontier which will be quite an improvement over what is currently available.

Chassis and drivetrain

Nissan’s US spokesman suggested a while ago that the D23 Navara is not necessarily going to underpin the upcoming Frontier. However, it seems that this might not be true considering that renders and development mules have been seen wearing the same sheet-metal as the new Navara. This is rather interesting because it means that the upcoming Frontier will share quite a bit with the upcoming Mercedes truck. The two will get roughly the same chassis as the Navara, the same all-wheel drive system as well as many other similarities.

2018 Nissan Frontier price

The price is still unknown at this point but we do think the truck might get more expensive than the current model. A base starting price of around $20,000 is quite possible at this point.

Considering how the Titan evolved, the upcoming 2018 Nissan Frontier should borrow quite a few of its design traits. Even though it will be based on the Navara, we do expect from it a new front end, more aggressive and slightly more muscular. The new Frontier is likely going to receive a stylized V-shaped grille, slightly slimmer headlights and possible a new bumper. The truck has also been rumored to get wider but this has not been confirmed for now. Like the previous model, the US version of the Navara should be offered in a couple of different cab configurations and a few bed lengths as well. This will allow its customers to get the best possible experience.

Unfortunately, at this point, not much has been said about the cabin of the future Frontier. The European version of the truck is well equipped and comfortable but a bit too expensive. The US model will likely receive a similar design scheme but less equipment on the most basic versions. However, the quality of the materials should be on par with the best trucks in its class. Also, the top end models of the Frontier will likely be quite well equipped for the money.

Engine

One of the largest unknown factors about the future 2018 Nissan Frontier is the engine the truck will get. We are quite sure at this point that it will feature a diesel in one form or another. On top of that, it will very likely also offer one or two different petrol engines. The base truck is very likely going to receive a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 petrol unit. This has been around for a while now but it should offer a good amount of power and decent fuel economy with the help of a direct injection.

The older 4 liter V6, on the other hand, is very likely going to get replaced by the 3.5 liter V6 from the Maxima. This engine is capable of close to 300 horsepower and over 260 lb-ft of torque. This is vastly superior to the older V6. On top of these two, the new Frontier might receive a 2.8 liter Cummins inline 4 diesel. However, if Nissan doesn’t get an agreement with Cummins, we might see a 2.3 liter twin-turbo inline 4 diesel with 190 horsepower and well over 300 lb-ft of torque. In any case, a seven-speed automatic should be offered with a six-speed manual being standard on certain versions.
