Showcased in 2011 as a concept, the current CX-5 has been first released in 2012 and since then it received a large update at the end of 2014. Even though the car is relatively new, it seems that an all-new model is on its way with the 2018 Mazda CX-5. So far the Japanese manufacturer hasn’t said much about this new car. However, it seems that it will likely be released at the end of next year and go on sale shortly after that.
2018 Mazda CX-5 Price
The price should be right around on the same level with the previous model. This means that it should start around $22,500 and go up from there.
Chassis and running gear
One of the main selling points of the current model has been the way it drives. Mazda is well known for making all of their models sportier than the competition and the CX-5 is no different. The upcoming 2018 model should follow this pattern closely. On top of that, it seems that the new car might still be based on the same basic chassis as the ongoing generation. This should mean that it will remain just as fun to drive and as capable as before. However, we expect the new CX-5 to become more comfortable and likely more compliant as well.

Mazda CX-5 2018 Design
So far we have only seen a few spy shots of a heavily camouflaged 2018 Mazda CX-5 but the details are quite clear already. The basic shape of the CX-5 will be kept unchanged which has been said before. However, its front end will be all new and from the looks of it, the car will be nearly identical to the Chinese-only CX-4. This features a new grille with the headlights being integrated into it. On top of that, there will be a more aggressive front bumper and also a slightly more muscular appearance thanks to a new hood and fenders. The back is still unknown at this point. However, we are quite sure that the upcoming CX-5 will be very similar to the ongoing generation.
2018 Mazda CX-5 Interior
Here the 2018 model of the CX-5 might have a lot more in common with the new CX-7 than we first thought. For starters, the new CX-5 might receive a new dashboard with a slightly cleaner look to it. On top of that, the car is also expected to receive a new infotainment system, a new steering wheel as well as a different instrument cluster. However, it is likely that these will be the same units that are found on current Mazda cars like the new 6 or even the larger CX-7.

Engine and transmission
So far it seems that the future 2018 Mazda CX-5 will feature the same powertrains as the ongoing model. This means that the base version of the car will use a 2 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 petrol engine. This should offer 155 horsepower and little over 150 lb-ft of torque. The higher end model should stick with its current 2.5 liters naturally aspirated SkyActiv mill which currently makes 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. While both of these are less powerful than the competition, both of them have been proven to be some of the most fuel efficient non-hybrid engines on the market.
Some rumors also suggested that the 2.2 liters turbocharged inline 4 diesel might come to the US market. This has been around in Europe for some time and it would make a great addition to the range. This engine currently makes 173 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which is quite impressive. Like before, a six-speed manual should be offered as standard while the six-speed automatic will be an option.
