The LS is Lexus’s flagship sedan which has been around since the company’s launch. The ongoing model of the LS has been released back in 2006, a decade ago. Because of that and due to the fact Lexus hasn’t upgraded the car in a while, the LS lost the battle against competitors like the S-Class or the 7 Series. Luckily, though, it seems that a new model is going to be launched with the upcoming 2018 Lexus LS.
2018 Lexus LS Price
So far we don’t know too many official details about this car. However, it seems that it will be Lexus’s second car to use their new modular rear-wheel drive architecture. The price shouldn’t change all that much so still expect it to cost well over $70,000.
Chassis and running gear
The new platform has been first used on the LC coupe which has been released last year. However, the LS is expected to be longer and wider than the coupe as well as heavier. Despite that, it should be much lighter than the ongoing model which is one of the heaviest in its class. This will be achieved with extensive use of aluminum and composites. Even though so far we have only seen a couple of spy shots of a camouflaged model, Lexus did release the LF-FC concept car which might just be the future LS. Even though this is just a concept, Lexus has proven in the past that their concepts can be very close to the usual production vehicles.
One of the most impressive features of the upcoming 2018 Lexus LS will definitely be its looks. While the current car looks old, the new version should impress everyone. If we take a close look at the camouflaged cars and at the concept, it is quite clear that Lexus wants a more aggressive design. The new car should be wider and lower than before. On top of that, it will be offered in two different wheelbase lengths to meet everyone’s demands. Even though it is not official just yet, we expect the production version to mirror the concept’s design quite closely which will be a hit for Lexus and the luxury car market in general.
2018 Lexus LS Interior
Unfortunately, at this point, we do not have too much information about the interior of the future Lexus LS 2018. We are quite sure that the LC’s cabin won’t be used for the LS due to the rather massive difference in size. We expect a more grown up look with a more conventional-looking dashboard and much better materials. The long wheelbase model will likely be available as a four-seat version as well in order to compete with cars like the S-Class. Also, considering that Lexus has been seen testing the new LS alongside the 7 Series, it is safe to assume that they are taking the competition quite seriously.
Engine and transmission
So far it seems that the upcoming 2018 Lexus LS will make use of the same engines that can be found on the LC. The base model of the car should receive a 5 liter naturally aspirated and direct injected V8. With 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque, this is not exactly the most powerful out there. However, it should be plenty for a luxury sedan, at least for its base version. Further up the range, a 3.5 liter V6 mated to a set of electric motors is also a real possibility. This should offer around 425 horsepower which is still plenty. The V8 should be offered with a 10-speed automatic while the V6 will most likely only get the CVT. Some rumors also suggested a hydrogen-powered LS but this is highly unlikely for a car as luxurious as it.
