Anyone familiar with cars has heard about Fisker and their Karma, a four-door hybrid coupe which was not as great as they said it is. Mostly because of it and the recession, Fisker went bankrupt a while ago and since then they have been bought by a Chinese parts manufacturer. On top of that, they also bought the older Fisker battery supplier in order to revive the car under the 2018 Karma Revero name. So far it seems that the “new” car is nothing more than just a Fisker Karma with a few slight modifications made. Take into account though that this is not the Corvette-powered supercar but just a small refresh of the Karma, a car designed nearly a decade ago.
2018 Karma Revero Release Date and Price
It still is unclear on when the car is going to become available for sale. However, it seems that the man behind the Fisker brand thinks they could end up selling between 1,000 and 2,000 cars a year in the next couple of years. The price for the 2018 Karma Revero is no less than $100,000 which is a lot for a car with the same basic hybrid powertrain as the Volt. However, unlike the Volt, the Revero comes in a much more impressive skin with a lot more power.
Why did it fail?
One of the main reasons the previous model failed was the rather poor performance and lackluster build quality. Well, it seems that the 2018 Karma Revero might have some of those issues fixed. For starters, the company worked tremendously on improving the build quality. Fisker suggested that they spent a lot of time and drove the cars for more than 300,000 miles in order to see what could go wrong and replace those items. Because of that, the new Revero should be better in terms of build quality. However, despite that, the running gear, engine, most of the interior and even the design are identical to the car before it.
Exterior and Interior
Like we mentioned, the Revero looks nearly identical to the Fisker Karma. It offers the same front end with the BMW Z8-inspired grilles. The headlights have been slightly revised with LED daytime running lights while the wheels are new as well. The car also features new badges and also new paint schemes. Unfortunately, this is where the improvements stop. The interior, on the other hand, is identical. It features the same steering wheel, instrument cluster, seats and even odd gear selector. However, the materials and fit-and-finish have been improved while the infotainment system updated. The back seats are still very cramped for a car this large and the trunk space is minimal due to the large battery pack installed under the floor.
What powers the new 2018 Karma Revero?
Like before, the 2018 Karma Revero features a hybrid powertrain sourced from GM. This combines a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine, which acts as a range extender, with two electric motors mounted to the rear axle. The car will only get 20 MPG on average when running on petrol which is very bad considering it is only capable of a 0 to 60 MPH sprint in 5.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 125 MPH.
The good part is that the electric range has been improved to 50 miles thanks to a larger 24 kWh battery pack. This means the car will do 55 MPGe which is average at best. Like before, this is one of the least impressive factors of the car which may spell trouble for the Karma company once again. On top of that, the 2-liter GM-sourced engine has been out of production for some time. This means that when they finish their stock, they will have to find another petrol engine to install under the hood of the Revero.
