The Accord reached its ninth generation through perseverance and incremental changes. The car is not all that impressive in any way. However, it offers a really comfortable ride, it is well equipped and quite efficient. This allowed Honda to sell a lot of them and throughout the years it became one of the best-selling cars of all times. Released back in 2012, the current model is not that old. However, it seems that an update is one its way with the 2018 Honda Accord. The new car has been spied testing a while ago and it seems it will change quite a bit over what is currently available. The new model should be out in 2017 for a similar price to the current generation.
Platform and drivetrain
For starters, the new Honda Accord 2018 is going to be based on the same modular architecture as the Honda Civic. This new platform is more rigid than any other chassis used for the Accord. On top of that, it should be lighter as well as more versatile. With it, we expect better driving characteristics than before as well as better comfort thanks to improved NVH levels. There is still no word on the actual size of the car but from the test mule, it seems that the car will be lower and wider than before.
Honda Accord Design
So far the car has been using a unique design not that similar to the Civic. It seems that this will not be the case for the 2018 Honda Accord. The new model seems to have the same angular design scheme as the latest Civic which has been praised by many. In the front, the headlights seem to be slimmer and mounted lower while the grille might be nearly identical to the Civic. Also, it is worth noting that the car’s general look will be extremely different due to a raked roof. This will give the Accord the look of a four-door coupe which is a bold move considering that Toyota’s Camry won’t be doing it. The back also seems to have the same touches found on the new Civic.
2018 Honda Accord Interior
More Civic inside the cabin of the new 2018 Accord which may be good or bad. So far most people loved the way the Civic looks. However, on a more upmarket model like the Accord, this might not be so great. It seems that the instrument cluster of the new Accord and at least part of the dashboard are very similar to the angular design found on the latest Civic. We should wait and see how much space will be available for the passengers but due to the angled roof design, it might shrink a bit in comparison to the older model.
Engine and transmission
We are quite sure that the 2018 Honda Accord will ditch all of its naturally aspirated engines. In their place, we should see two new turbocharged inline 4 engines which will both be available first on the Civic. The base 2.4 liter engine will likely be replaced by a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 mill. This should be capable of around 170 horsepower and over 170 lb-ft of torque which is very close to the 2.4 liters older engine. The 3.5 liter V6, on the other hand, might be replaced by Honda’s new 2 liter turbocharged VTEC inline 4, an engine first offered on the European Type R. This has been proven to make over 300 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque which is already superior to the older V6. On top of that it is rumored that this engine will also be more efficient than its predecessor. The transmission of choice in both cases might be a 9 speed automatic which will only drive the front wheels.
Price of new 2018 Accord
There is still no official information about the price of this model, but our assumptions are that the 2018 Accord will have a value of about $ 30,000
