The Xterra still is one of the best crossovers to get off-road. It has a high ground clearance, it is highly reliable and its ability to go anywhere is great. Unfortunately, the car has been discontinued since 2015 because it was not selling as good as it used to. On top of that, Nissan decided that its type of crossovers were no longer desirable. However, it seems that they were wrong. There are now more manufacturers trying to breach that market because people shifted their attention on the crossover. The gas is cheaper than it has been in the past years and cars are getting cheaper as well. Also, many still do prefer the feeling of knowing that hey can get their cars pretty much anywhere.
2017 Nissan Xterra Price
In order to not be left behind, a new model might be released with the rumored 2017 Nissan Xterra. Like before, the car would still use a body on frame design. However, this time around it seems that the chassis of the Navara might be used. This is an all new frame released back in 2014, so it pretty much has all the latest technologies built into it. The body, engines and even running gear, on the other hand, might be unique to it. Also, unlike the previous model, the price should now drop under $25,000. This would have to happen in order to compete with cars like the future Bronco and the new Wrangler.
Unlike that two crossovers, the future 2017 Nissan Xterra might be offered in a four doors configuration only. This has also been used in the past and people loved that about it. This time around though the design will be completely different. For starters, the boxy shape will be gone. In its place, it seems that the new Xterra might borrow from the latest Navara. The front end could be similar while at the back it will look a lot more modern. The staggered doors though might return. This has been a design statement ever since it was launched and it might be again.
Nissan Xterra Interior
The previous car also lacked a proper interior. Even though it had plenty of seats, it was not that great in terms of comfort or materials. The new generation should get a more car-like interior. The dashboard will have less vertical surfaces and it will be made out of softer materials. Its seats should also offer a better driving and sit position without sacrificing comfort. Equipment wise, the Xterra will very likely be nearly identical to the Rogue, a similarly priced vehicle but without the off-road capabilities.
2017 Nissan Xterra Specs
Even though gas is currently quite cheap, many people look to get fuel efficient cars. Well, because of that the upcoming 2017 Nissan Xterra won’t be able to use the old 4 liter V6. In its place, we might see at least two different powertrains. The car could get a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4, a Renault-built engine. This should offer close to 270 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Its main advantages would be the great fuel efficiency on the highway and the good amount of torque.
However, it would likely be quite expensive to build, so it might only be offered on the more expensive models. A 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 is more likely to be offered as standard. With around 290 horsepower on tap, it should be plenty for most. Also, thanks to direct injection the engine would likely match the fuel efficiency of most of its competitors. Both of these should get a standard manual gearbox which would be quite refreshing. Some also suggested that a 2.3 liter turbocharged diesel with as much as 180 horsepower could be added at a later date and we only hope that these rumors are actually true.
