The Armada once was one of the best full-size SUVs on the US market but because it was neglected by Nissan it quickly became a less than average model which offered nothing all that impressive to be really worth it. Luckily, though, in order to save the SUV from its certain death, they released an all new version with the 2017 Nissan Armada which is a completely reworked car over the original. Nissan decided to keep the body on frame design unchanged but pretty much everything else has been improved in order to make the Armada a better car on the road and a more comfortable ride for long journeys.
2017 Nissan Armada Price
Like we said, the body on frame design has been kept but instead of using the chassis that the new Titan is being based on, the car is actually nearly identical underneath to the ongoing International version of the Patrol Y62 which has been around for some time now. This allowed Nissan to focus most of their resourced on their new trucks but this also means that unlike the previous model, the new Armada is being built in Japan which will likely mean that the old $40,000 base price will skyrocket. In fact, considering that most of its competitors start at well over $45,000 it wouldn’t be such a large surprise that the new car will get closer to them.
However, despite that Nissan is still likely going to keep a price advantage mostly thanks to the fact the new 2017 Nissan Armada did require all that much effort for research in development. This is not really a problem considering that the car can easily match most of its direct competitors and the added benefit of having one of the most rugged chassis out there will certainly be a plus.
Design of New Armada 2017
The new 2017 Nissan Armada might seem larger at a first glance but the wheelbase is around 2 inches shorter than before and the overall length has been increased slightly. One of the largest differences is that the new car is around 2 inches lower which means it looks quite a bit more butch than before which will appeal to a much wider market share than before. This new design which employs quite a bit from the Y62 should allow the Armada to be regarded as one of the most premium vehicles in its class which was not the case with the older model. Inside the cabin, we can see a very similar trend as well and a departure from the agricultural design of the older model. Just like with the exterior its cabin is identical to that of the Nissan Patrol but they decided to use slightly better materials in order to account for the larger acquisition price of the Armada.
2017 Nissan Armada Specs
The 5.6 liter naturally aspirated V8 powering the new 2017 Nissan Armada might also seem identical to that of the older model but it has been reworked extensively by Nissan and the only real similarity with the older car is the displacement. It now benefits from direct injection, new pistons, an all new 7-speed automatic gearbox and a better all wheel drive system which is still an option, unfortunately. The end result is a rather average 390 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque which should translate into much better performance and also fuel consumption.
Unfortunately, because the new model is nearly more than 300 pounds heavier than before getting close to 6,000 pounds, it is just as fast as before and not that efficient when compared to some of its turbocharged competitors. Also, the tow rating has decreased to 8,500 pounds which are still plenty but not nearly as good as the older model.
