The Grand Cherokee is one of the better selling mid-size crossovers in the World and despite being nearly five years old, it still sells better than ever. However, there are now newer models out there which are starting to catch on so in order to keep the car relevant until an all-new model is going to be released, Chrysler will release an update with the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee which will include not only a slight exterior change but it will also get a new trim level as well as slight interior upgrades.
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Price and Release Date
The price is going to change accordingly which means that the base model will continue to start at roughly $31,000 but the top end version will now start at over $70,000 instead of just $53,000. This is because Jeep is introducing a high-performance version of the Grand Cherokee with the Trackhawk version which was initially considered to be just a rumor.
This new model will compete with the BMW M cars and the AMG Mercedes models and it will employ one of the most powerful engines out there. Unfortunately, the new model will only be released starting with the end of 2016 and it will only be on the market for a short year or two until the all-new Grand Cherokee will hit the market.
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Specs
In terms of engines, the base models will continue to use the same naturally aspirated V6 and V8 engines found on the current model. The base will offer a 3.6 liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque while further up the range, a 5.7 liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque is going to be available. Unfortunately, the SRT8 model will be discontinued from the North American market. Luckily, though, the new Trackhawk edition will replace it completely but instead of the old 6.4 liter V8, this one is expected to receive a 6.2 liter supercharged V8 from the Hellcat cars. Unlike these, though, we assume that Jeep will tune the engine for around 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque in order to make use of the four-wheel drive system.
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior and Interior
The exterior of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is also going to receive quite a bit of attention as well. The front end is expected to be updated with new headlights, a revamped grille more similar to that of the baby-Jeep as well as a more aerodynamic front bumper. The back of the car will only get new tail lights but inside the cabin, an all-new infotainment system is expected to be installed even on the most basic model of the Grand Cherokee.
