The Si badge has been around for decades and it denotes the model right under the Type R both in terms of performance and looks. The previous generation of the Si has been available either as a sedan or as a coupe but it is no longer available because the all-new Civic has been released a few months ago and it seems that the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Si is going to be released by the end of the year and its market availability will start with the first quarter of 2017. Just like before, the car will remain front-wheel drive and it will still keep a good balance between performance and comfort but things are still going to change a lot more than many people would like.
2017 Honda Civic Si Price
Thanks to the fact the car will be based on Honda’s newest platform means that the car will be more structurally rigid and also slightly lighter. Also, the Si will still benefit from a stiffer chassis, a better running gear than the regular car and also a better engine. The price is still unknown at this point but we expect it to hover around $25,000 or little less than that. Just like before, the Si will be available for the coupe version and likely for the sedan as well and there are also some rumors which suggest that the Si badge might become available for the hatchback as well which would make it a true competitor for the Golf GTI and for the Focus ST.
A 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 with VTEC was standard on the predecessor of the 2017 Honda Civic Si but this is highly unlikely going to find its way on the new version. Many people suggested that Honda will offer an engine with up to 220 horsepower which wouldn’t be exactly in the reach of the old 2.4-liter unit. Instead, Honda currently has a very potent 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 mill which is already available on the European model with a very impressive output of 201 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. Our best bet would go on an upgraded version of this engine which could easily be tuned to make that kind of power and torque and even more thanks to the fact it is a highly capable turbocharged unit similar to Ford’s EcoBoost line of engines.
Like before, a 6-speed manual gearbox is going to be offered as standard on the Si which will power the front wheels drive only. The best part about it is that the car is going to feature a true mechanical limited slip differential which will make it a blast to drive. An automatic has been rumored for the sedan version but it hasn’t been confirmed so far by Honda.
2017 Honda Civic Si Exterior and Interior Design
So far the design of the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Si is still under wraps but not too long ago Honda showcased the hatchback body with the Type R model which is a bit more subtle than the previous model. This is good because it likely means that this generation of the Si is likely going to share body parts with the higher performance Type R. We expect the two to feature a similar front end but the Si will get smaller rims, a slightly higher ride height and unlike the Type R, the Si is going to feature a dual exhaust system for the first time ever. Its cabin is definitely going to be accented with red inserts and likely red stitching on the upholstery which was also used on the previous generation. On top of that, unlike the regular model, the new Si should feature more supportive front seats as standard.
