The Avenger has first been a two door executive coupe and later, between 2007 and 2014, a medium size family car. The car has been removed from the market in 2014 and replaced by the Chrysler 200. The interesting part is that the latter has also been discontinued earlier this year and the FCA group doesn’t seem to plan on replacing it anytime soon. This made quite a few people question if a 2017 Dodge Avenger would ever be released again. Considering that the FCA group doesn’t have those many cars out there, releasing it would make sense.
2017 Dodge Avenger Rumors
We do know about strong rumors and inside information about a future Magnum. Chances are that the Magnum and the upcoming Avenger would both share the same platform. The two would be based on a new modular front-wheel drive platform and both of the should be priced similarly. The cars would compete with new offerings like the Malibu or the Mazda 6, two very good four door sedans. Unfortunately, Dodge hasn’t said much about this car but it might just be what the company needs to resurrect itself.
So far it seems that the future Avenger would be slightly smaller than the Charger or even the upcoming Magnum. However, it would still offer a sporty appearance and it would still have plenty of space for up to five adults. Rumors suggest that the coupe-like shape of the previous model is not going to be an issue here. Instead, the 2017 Dodge Avenger should get a more similar shape to that of the new Alfa Giulia. Even though it will be front-wheel drive, the car should get a more athletic design that will give it the flair it needs to succeed. With it, new higher performance cars should also be released, but more on that a bit later.
2017 Dodge Avenger Interior
Some of the latest problems with the current Dodge models are inside the cabin. While these do have plenty of space, the materials, design and general layout of their interiors are bad. The upcoming Avenger is expected to solve most of these problems. The car will be the first getting an entirely new cabin. Also, despite its smaller price tag, it should be better built than the Charger as well as it should have a nicer overall feel. The cabin will definitely be smaller than that of the Charger. However, it will have a better layout so its passengers won’t have to suffer from the lack of available space.
Because the market is moving to more efficient vehicles, the 2017 Dodge Avenger won’t get away with large engines. The front wheel drive platform should allow Dodge for some really interesting powertrains. Rumors suggest that the base model will receive a 1.8-liter turbo inline 4 with 210 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. This would be on par with its rivals, offering slightly more power and a slightly worse fuel consumption. Further up, a new 2-liter turbo four should also be available. This is expected to make closer to 260 horsepower and just as much torque. The two are likely going to make use of the same nine-speed automatic transmission as the older 200. A higher performance variant of the Avenger might be released at a later date.
Not much has been said about it for now. However, considering the layout of the engine, we expect a new type of fast sedan. This could get a new twin-turbocharged V6 mated to a manual transmission. A four wheel drive system would handle the power delivery while an updated chassis will assure that the driver will enjoy every minute of the ride.
