You would expect the Equinox, a car which was officially released back in 2008, to be replaced by a new generation by now but it’s only mid-life update was the 2016 version which received a few changes inside and out and that’s about it. Rumors say that an all-new version might be offered with the upcoming 2017 Chevy Equinox which is already quite late in a class where the Mazda CX-5 and the Ford Escape sell a few times better than it. GM is looking to change all that so the upcoming Equinox will be very likely based on their new E2XX platform instead the decade old Theta which has been around since 2002.
With the new platform, the new 2017 Chevy Equinox should shave more than 400 pounds which would finally allow it to compete on the same level with all the other crossover. Weight has been a major problem with the current generation which ticked in at over 4,000 pounds in some trim levels which are simply unacceptable for a compact crossover. The new platform of the upcoming model is certainly going to change that and with it, we should also see new engines, a much more refined running gear as well as likely new dimensions. Like with most other cars these days, the upcoming Equinox is very likely going to get larger than before which will allow for more passengers and luggage space.
2017 Chevy Equinox Price
In order to be competitive, the 2017 Chevy Equinox will have to be priced close to the best selling cars in its class which makes us think that GM will offer the car from around $23,000 while its close sibling will start a bit higher. This base price will only be offered for the most basic model which should still offer plenty of gear for its class. Things such as a climate control system, a six to eight speakers audio system with a 7 inch LCD screen as well as much better materials than before are all a given. On top of that, the more premium models will add a larger screen for its infotainment unit, leather, wood or aluminum on some trim levels, better seats with better lumbar support as well as more gadgets and safety features such as an automatic cruise control unit and even automatic lane keep.
2017 Chevy Equinox Changes
The muscular look of the current model is very likely going to be carried over to the new generation as well but the design will completely change. This will likely adopt Chevrolet’s new corporate front look with the slimmer grille and headlights which will definitely give it a more aggressive look. On top of that, we expect the car’s proportions to be more similar to those of its competitors so even though it will be bigger, the car will still look quite nimble and agile.
Helping it be nimble and agile will be a pair of all new engines which we waited on the current model for a very long time. The old 2.4 liter inline 4 is very likely going to be replaced by a smaller 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine offering a similar amount of power but more torque. The top of the range 3.6 liter V6, on the other hand, is likely going to be replaced by GM’s new 3.6-liter unit which should provide around 320 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, nearly a 20 horsepower increase over the older generation. This is thanks to its direct injection system and much more efficient design which will also help the new 2017 Chevy Equinox be a lot more efficient than before with an estimated fuel consumption of 24 MPG on average for the V6, similar to the older 2.4-liter unit.
