Alfa Romeo didn’t have a compact executive sedan on the market ever since the 159 has been discontinued and this actually affected their sales in a negative way. Rumors of a replacement have been running ever since it was originally discontinued and not too long ago the Fiat Corporation announced an upcoming platform with the codename Giorgio, a platform which is likely going to be similar to that of the Ghibli, but at a smaller scale. Unlike what most people expected, this is going to be used by Dodge, Chrysler, and Alfa Romeo.
The latter is likely going to be the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giorgio, a rear wheel drive compact executive sedan built from scratch by the Italian manufacturer in order to compete for head to head with the BMW 3 Series and all the other cars in its class.
2017 Alfa Romeo Giorgio Release Date and Price
Even though the official release date is currently unknown, the car should be ready to be released to the public by the end of the second quarter of 2016 while the production car will be ready by the end of that year. The price should be under $40,000 for the base model and up to $60,000 for a direct competitor of the M4, a type of car which has been missing from Alfa Romeo’s roster for far too long.
Engine wise, the Giorgio is likely going to receive as its base unit a 2 liter turbocharged petrol engine with anything between 250 and 300 horsepower and up to 300 lb-ft of torque which is also quite likely going to be the only offering on the European market. The top of the range model will likely use a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 with up to 380 horsepower while the competitor for the M3 will use a V8 with up to 500 horsepower, finally allowing Alfa Romeo to become what they used to be, a high-end executive car manufacturer, just like BMW or Audi. Rear wheel drive is likely going to be standard while all-wheel drive is also going to be offered, likely under the Q4 name.
2017 Alfa Romeo Giorgio Exterior and Interior
The exterior of this upcoming model is, unfortunately, unknown but considering the size of the platform, we could expect a highly Italian sedan with a long hood and short back, a coupe-like design with very aggressive lines that will make it look like nothing else in its class. There is not that much information about the interior of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giorgio but considering the car will be an executive sedan, we can expect a much more luxurious interior than any of its predecessors and we actually expect the car to get design influences from the Maserati Ghibli.
