The current Wrangler has been around since 2006 and along the way it received a lot of updates which made it one of the best off-road vehicles in the World. This is mostly because it used a simple ladder frame chassis with solid axles which give it incredible strength and a lot of versatility. However, when rumors started to appear about a new generation of the car using independent suspension, people went crazy about it. However, it now seems that these were just rumors and that the upcoming 2016 Jeep Wrangler is going to be a lot more interesting than we first thought.
2016 Jeep Wrangler has been first spied in the wild a couple of months back and even though the actual design is unknown, the spied vehicle contained some crucial information about it. The test mule was running solid axles in the front and at the back as well as a new suspension setup and beefier brakes. These should make for a nice upgrade in off-road. On top of that, the upcoming model is rumored to come with at least a partial aluminum body which would decrease the weight of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler while its chassis will be both stronger and lighter than that of the previous model.
2016 Jeep Wrangler Release Date and Price
The release date has been set for the end of 2016 while the price should not exceed $25,000 for a base model.
2016 Jeep Wrangler Specs
Under the hood of the new Wrangler, we are likely to see new and old engines alike. The base model could make the transition to a 2.4 liter turbocharged inline four which could offer up to 260 horsepower and more than 280 lb-ft of torque with ease. The mid-range model will continue with an upgraded version of the current Pentastar V6 which will likely be boosted to around 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The top of the range model will very likely come equipped with the same engine found in the European version of the Wrangler; a 3 liter turbocharged inline-four diesel with as much as 200 horsepower and more than 340 lb-ft of torque. All of them will come as standard with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
Exterior and Interior Design
The design will also change quite a bit, but the iconic Jeep shape will remain. Expect from it a new front grille, new headlights and tail lights as well as new bumpers front and rear. The wheels will be all new, but the 2016 Jeep Wrangler will continue to offer a lot of cool features such as removable doors, a removable windshield and even a soft-top on some models. The interior will be minimalistic for sure, but it will offer better materials than before as well as more equipment on the top end versions of the car.
